A short walk west from the Piazza della Rotonda, Piazza Navona is beloved as a popular, entertainment hot spot featuring Bernini’s extraordinary Fountains of the Four Rivers, the Fountain of the Moor and the Fountain of Neptune. Borromini’s church of S. Agnese in Agone shines from the western side. Specially shaped, cut, and lifted elements evoke the “Cosmic Circus” energetic sense or vibe here.
Each of these art pieces illustrate the extraordinary, people-magnet places described in my book, Enlightened Rome: Discover the Magic of Piazzas and Public Spaces in Rome, Italy. This sculpture features the piazza’s open space as positive, and the building areas as negative. The cut, lifted elements highlight the character of the singular energy of this piazza.
