The sheer scale of this piazza is a marvel. Christianity’s most sacred urban square is as ornate as it is grand. It pulls people in and holds them in its loving embrace. Twin fonts flank a 40 meter tall obelisk at its center. The majesty of the colonnaded curving arms and the strength and grace of St. Peter’s basilica’s facade with Michelangelo’s dome bespeak adoring, divine love. Specially shaped, cut, and lifted elements evoke the “Heaven On Earth Embrace” energetic sense or vibe here.
Each of these art pieces illustrate the extraordinary, people-magnet places described in my book, Enlightened Rome: Discover the Magic of Piazzas and Public Spaces in Rome, Italy. This sculpture features the piazza’s open space as positive, and the building areas as negative. The cut, lifted elements highlight the character of the singular energy of this piazza.
